New rules mean couples can now file for divorce online at any time of the day or night.
In 2024, 556 people filed for divorce over the festive period – including 13 on Big Day itself, official figures show.

- Recent trends: This is a significant increase from 2022, when the rate was 6.7 for men and 6.6 for women. The higher number in 2023 is attributed to the introduction of the new “Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act” in April 2022, which may have caused delays in 2022.
